Lunar New Year

14 February, 11am-2pm

Palmerston North will celebrate Lunar New Year 2026, – the Year of the Horse, symbolising energy and new beginnings, with a free, community led event in Te Marae o Hine – The Square.

There will be plenty to see and do on the day,  including:

  • Traditional lion and dragon dances
  • Performances from local groups, including the IPU Drum Team.
  • Community stall holders offering hands-on activities such as knot tying and calligraphy
  • A wishing tree to share hopes for the year ahead
  • A variety of traditional cuisines, prepared by community groups
